Although, not entirely about Ruby on Rails, this is quite an inspirational post. This goes out to all of you beginner Rubyist’s with the message that it can be done


I started learning Ruby 1 year ago this month from Larry Ullman’s Ruby Visual Quickstart Guide (amazon link).  At the time, I was working backstage at a respected theater.  It was a job I had started only a few months earlier, and in my chosen field, no less.  I knew I was lucky to be doing what I’d thought I’d wanted, but the satisfaction it brought did not last beyond a few weeks.

I had been doing theatre since grade school, but only really fell in love with it in college, when I began designing the lighting for student shows.  By the end of my 4 years, I had managed to design for several faculty productions in addition to running the student theatre space with a good friend of mine.  I was at the top, and that allowed me to solve the interesting problems.  I got called whenever…
